Mike Skinner is the man behind the musical phenomenon that was THE STREETS, for which he won an Ivor Novello, a Brit Award, and changed the sound of UK music forever.
It’s been fourteen years since the release of Mike Skinner’s groundbreaking album ‘Original Pirate Material’ as The Streets. With its lo-fi production, garage-influenced beats and kitchen sink poetry, it paved the way for a whole new generation of UK MCs and producers that would truly find their own voice and style, one that didn’t imitate the US. As the classic lyric goes: “Round here we say birds not bitches”. Five studio albums later, The Streets are now closed, leaving Skinner to continue to push things forward in the form of his DJ sets.
Mike’s musical selections are as eclectic as his production capabilities. From house to hip hop via drum and bass & UK Garage, and peppered with his own, up the minute refixes, and classic tracks, Mr Skinner never fails to ignite the party spirit.
